Benebone is a chew toy and is not edible. They should show gradual wear, so adjust the toy size to your dog to prevent gastrointestinal problems.
Keep it clean:
Keep the Benebone free of dog hair and other debris, which can become entangled with small pieces of Benebone and create an ingestion hazard. This can even happen with regular wear and even if the product flakes are the size of a grain of rice or smaller. Hair and other debris can make any toy or chew more dangerous by forming a "nest" of debris.
Benebone is made of nylon, which is a hard substance. Aggressive chewing can cause chips or cracks in teeth and possibly result in tooth loss/removal. Not all dogs have teeth to withstand aggressive chewing of hard substances, such as nylon. Tooth injuries are an unavoidable risk when using chew toys of this hardness and durability, such as nylon. If your dog has any dental pathology, you should consider softer products to avoid this risk. Our puppy product line is only slightly softer than our adult products and is also not suitable for older dogs or those that may have compromised tooth strength.
